Boris Micka Associates' Award-Winning Design Reflects Saudi Arabia's Evolution

The Pavilion's design inspiration stems from the desire to avoid over-complicated forms and instead, present a solid, trustworthy representation of the country. The structure rises from the ground, symbolizing a society that is firmly grounded yet has unlimited ambitions. The simplicity of its lines and the quality of its construction reflect a society that values beauty in the essence of things.

What sets this design apart is its unique properties. The building stands as an inclined volume, symbolizing Saudi Arabia as a country firmly rooted in its heritage but evolving towards the future. The exhibition fosters visitor interaction through engaging immersive audiovisual experiences that reflect Saudi society, heritage, and future, revealing many unknown aspects of The Kingdom.

State-of-the-art audiovisual installations, interactive environments, and scenographic recreations bring the Pavilion to life. The Pavilion boasts a total audiovisual screen area of 2,672 m2, 384 million pixels for video display, and 580 m3 of scenography, offering visitors a unique, immersive experience.

The Saudi Arabia Expo Pavilion is located in the Opportunity Sector at the Dubai Expo 2020. Opened to the public in October 2021, it has already received over 3 million visitors. The Pavilion will remain a legacy building integrated into the new District 2020 area, a mixed urban development that will integrate residential, cultural, and technical facilities.

Designing a national pavilion for a world Expo is a challenging task. The goal was to portray a country changing in every aspect, opening to the world, proud of its heritage but aiming for a bright future, revealing many unknown facets of the Kingdom. The design team traveled across the country to absorb its diversity and incorporate it into the project, resulting in a design that accurately and excitingly portrays the Kingdom in all its complexity.

The Saudi Arabia Expo Pavilion is a bold inclined volume rising from the ground towards the sky, symbolizing Saudi Arabia as a country firmly rooted in its heritage but changing rapidly towards the future. The exhibition contents display Saudi nature, heritage, society, and vision for the future, providing an insight into a fascinating country, creating a lasting memory, and fostering visitors' interest to learn more.
